I’ve completed my 4th week on being Gluten Free and looking forward to this Thursday, Thanksgiving Day for us here in the United States.
So Happy Thanksgiving to all my US subscribers. May it be a great day of Family, Food, and Football. And for those outside the US you can certainly adopt this Holiday Tradition and make the 4th Thursday of the month of November a time to officially give thanks for all the Blessings you enjoy.
Now you may be worried that I won’t be able to eat anything.
Not true.
I can eat as much turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, and broccoli, as I want. I don’t like stuffing so the only thing missing from the meal will be the rolls.
What about desert? My wife Sherry is going to make a Gluten Free apple pie. So I’ll still get to enjoy a food coma just like everyone else. And fall asleep watching the football game. And resist the temptation to go to WalMart on Thursday night for the Black Friday shopping deals.
Now on to today’s topic.
Free radical damage has been the leading candidate for the cause of aging. However, there is another factor that is emerging that causes accelerated aging even faster than free radicaldamage.
It’s Advanced Glycation End Products that has been appropriately acronymed AGEs.
Before we talk about what this is let’s talk about what effect it has on the aging process.
- They stiffen arteries leading to atherosclerosis.
- They cloud the lenses of your eyes causing cataracts to form.
- They interfere with neural connections in the brain contributing to dementia.
- They effect the kidney’s ability to properly filter your blood.
- They cause cartilage damage leading to joint deterioration and stiffness.
- They cause your skin to age faster than it should leading to wrinkles and sagging skin.
In fact any place that your blood goes, AGEs can follow potentially effecting every cell, tissue, and organ system in your body.
And once AGEs are formed, they are irreversible and resistant to your body’s cleansing process.
And while you can ingest AGEs in the foods you eat, the most common cause in the creation of these nasty age accelerators is blood glucose.
The glucose molecule attaches itself to a protein molecule resulting in a glucoseprotein combination called AGEs that have absolutely no benefit to your human existence.
And how do we know all this.
From research on diabetics who on average have 60% greater blood levels of AGEs when compared to nondiabetics.
Now you might be thinking, “I’m not diabetic” so I’ve nothing to worry about. Unfortunately, diabetes is growing at epidemic rates here in the United States. 100 million people are either diabetic or prediabetic.
Why?
Because most Americans consumes foods that cause theirblood sugar levels to increase resulting in the potential for the acceleration of AGEs.
This will be our topic for our next newsletter. What foods cause high blood sugar? And the information I’m going to share will surprise you.
PS This is for the men. AGEs are a leading cause of ED. Not higher education but that weak to no erection because they impair blood flow into the corpus cavernosum of your penile tissue.
